A household name for household improvements

Bunnings (owned by Wesfarmers) is a major retailer of home improvement and lifestyle products in Australia and New Zealand. The company is a top supplier to project builders, commercial tradespeople, and the housing industry. It operates a large network of stores, trade centers, frame and truss sites, and has an online presence serving consumer and commercial customers.

Managing Director
Bunnings
Sure, we want to give our customers a compelling offer. But what’s been fantastic in doing the work we’ve done in the digital space, has been thinking about the customer journeys and the blend of our long-term team members and our new people.

Friendly and flexible

The company has a flexible and informal work environment that helps to balance work and personal life. In addition, team members are eligible for discounts at Bunnings and other Wesfarmers brands, as well as incentives and discounts from corporate partners. There is also cost-priced food and drinks available at the Bunnings cafe.

The company also offers 12 weeks of paid parental leave to all employees and opportunities to make a positive impact in their communities and the environment.

Engineering culture

The Bunnings Engineering team builds and maintains Bunnings digital platforms and is considered part of the company's Store Support function.

The team practices continuous delivery and continuous integration within an Agile DevOps culture. The DevOps team focuses on disaster recovery, high availability, on-demand scalable solutions, and monitoring and alerting across large-scale enterprise infrastructure running on Azure Cloud.

Bunnings' REST APIs are hosted on Azure Kubernetes and make use of SQL Server, Azure Tables, Azure Blob storage, and the event grid as needed. The team uses event-based systems to manage the asynchronous flow of data within the business, enabling it to handle a high volume of changes. The team also uses tools such as Octopus, TeamCity, and GitHub Actions and Jira for agile project management.
